When can I apply?
You can apply to take long service leave once you have recorded more than 2,600 service days (equivalent to 10 years full time employment). We will let you know when this happens, but you can check how close you are at any point by logging in to see the number of service days you have recorded.
How many weeks of leave can I take?
You don't have to take it all at once though, it just needs to be taken in whole weeks and in minimum 2 week periods. Once you have accrued your 13 weeks leave, it doesn't end there. For each year you work thereafter, you will receive a further 1.3 weeks of leave.
How do I apply?
When you're ready to take leave, simply log into the Worker Portal, complete the online claim form, then get ready to enjoy some much deserved rest and relaxation. If an employer currently has you registered they will be required to approve your period of leave online.

Your weekly rate of pay and expected gross payment will be displayed during the lodgement of your claim through the Worker Portal.
You'll receive an email from us after your payment has been processed, and your PAYG payment summary will be available in the Worker Portal for you to download.
When will I be paid?
We will pay you in advance for your whole period of leave. Payments can take a couple of weeks to process so to make sure you get paid on time, please apply at least two weeks before starting leave. (Note that this processing time is subject to your application being completed in full, and if required, information requested from your employer or an interstate scheme is provided promptly).
Can I work while on long service leave?
No, long service leave is your time to take a break from work, relax and recharge, so you are unable to work while on long service leave. Penalties apply. If you urgently need to return to work, please contact us so we can assist you.
What happens if a public holiday falls within my period of leave?
We will pay you as a long service leave day. Your employer will not pay you for the public holiday.
Do I accrue service days while on leave?
When you take long service leave, we credit you with the applicable service days for the period of your leave. For example, if you take 13 weeks leave, you will be credited with 65 service days. This means that while you are on long service leave you are accruing an entitlement towards your next period of leave.
Can I extend my long service leave?
You are not able to extend your leave, however you may apply for periods of leave consecutively. The minimum period for long service leave is 2 weeks. You'll need to complete a new claim through the Worker Portal.
Making a claim due to leaving the industry
When can I apply?
If you have accrued more than 1,820 service days (equivalent to 7 years full time employment) and will not be performing building, electrical or metal work as an employee for a minimum period of 12 months you will be eligible to claim a payment.
It is important to note that if you have not accrued 2,600 service days, you are claiming a pro-rata payment which will break your service for long service leave purposes. This means you will need to accrue a further 1,820 days service before you qualify for any further benefit from the scheme.
How do I apply?
Please log in to your Worker Portal and lodge a claim. If an employer currently has you registered they will be notified to confirm that you have ceased employment prior to the processing of your claim.
How much will I be paid?
You will be paid the monetary equivalent of the weeks of leave you have accrued at the time you ceased employment. To view how many weeks you are entitled to log in to your Worker Portal.

Deceased Estates
If a worker passes away, the executor or administrator can claim the entitlement on behalf of the estate. In order for us to make payment, please complete the Application for Payment of Long Service Leave to a Deceased Estate form.
